Club Statement

We are publishing this statement following today's Supreme Court ruling where they determined that the terms "man", "woman", and "sex" in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex, and as such do not include trans men and women (even if they hold a gender recognition certificate).

This will, undoubtedly, come as a huge blow to the trans community who will be concerned about how they can access gendered facilities and services and also potentially concerned for their safety and wellbeing.

We are also concerned.

This decision adds to recent reductions in protections for the trans community. We are seeing the impact of that directly in rugby with the RFU's Gender Participation Policy making it more difficult for trans people to meaningfully access the game.

We want to make clear that the Renegades will always be a safe place for the trans community and, whilst we still have to see what this judgement may mean in practical terms, we remain committed to supporting our trans members and fostering a trans inclusive culture.
